Let’s face it, Mondays are definitely not the best. They’re infamously dreaded, and usually require numerous cups of coffee to survive. But why do we let Mondays get the better of us so often? At the end of the day, they’re really just another day of the week. They don’t need to be so awful, but putting some pep in your step when you have to return to work after the weekend can be easier said than done.

In fact, if you think about it, Mondays have the potential to be a great day! You’re refreshed and rejuvenated after the weekend and could get some serious work done if you put your mind to it. Let’s talk about some of the ways you can make Mondays less negative.

Plan Ahead

To start, prepare any work you have leftover for the next week on Fridays instead of leaving it for the weekend or a mad rush on Monday. Then, you can actually switch off and relax over the weekend. After that, the best way to start your Monday outright is to get ready for the new week on Sunday night.

Make sure you have clean clothes ready to wear, get a good night’s sleep, and set the coffee maker so you can wake up to a caffeine boost. Of course, the thought of giving up your free time on Sunday evening isn’t that pleasant, but it only takes half an hour to prepare for a better Monday. If you bring lunch to work, pack it ahead of time so you aren’t stressed in the morning. Prepping the night before will also help to start shifting your mind from relaxation to work mode.

Exercise Before Work

Exercise can release tension, reduce stress, and boost endorphins. It may feel like the last thing you want to do, but it can really get your week off to a great start. If you exercise before work on a Monday, you’ll feel better and more energetic throughout the day, and will probably be more productive too. Plus, it sets good intentions and increases the likelihood that you’ll continue to workout throughout the remainder of the week.

Make Sure You Eat Breakfast

Some people can’t do anything until they’ve had breakfast, while others hate eating in the mornings and always skip this important meal. Whatever you do, don’t miss out on eating something in the morning, preferably something healthy and full out slow-release energy carbohydrates like oatmeal. Even if you don’t usually enjoy eating breakfast, try to make time for it. A healthy breakfast can improve your energy and keep you satiated until lunchtime. Not to mention, eating a good breakfast can help you concentrate and make you more productive.

Treat Yourself on Mondays

Mondays are a great day of the week to enjoy a lunch out or socialize over lunch break with your coworkers. Giving yourself little moments of enjoyment throughout the day gives you something to look forward to, relieves some stress, and also keeps you in a positive mood for the entirety of the day. Treating yourself to a nice lunch on a Monday can also help the latter half of your day seem a little less daunting.

Do Something Fun After Work

Mondays are not known for being fun days, but why not? There’s no reason why you can’t save a little enjoyment for after work on a Monday and celebrate that you made it through the toughest day of the week. Just like treating yourself throughout the day, giving yourself something fun to do after work on Monday can improve your mood, give you something to look forward to, and can also trick your brain into associating Mondays with a good time rather than a stressful one. Maybe go out for a drink with friends or your significant other after work, or plan a movie night.

Remember, Mondays are the start of your week, and if you let them be negative and get the best of you, the rest of your week might follow suit. It’s important to start your weeks off with positivity and good intentions and engage in whatever steps you need to personally take to make that happen. Mondays can be an awesome day, we just have to set them up with positivity, good intentions, and a little bit of fun.
